A dream beach frontplot on the Pacific Ocean. It is on the small island of Palo Seco, about 2 1/2 hours from San Jose, 40 kilometers south of Jaco, and 22 kilometers north of Quepos/Manuel Antonio.
From the airport in San Jose take the road to Jaco. Continue past Jaco through Parrita. Parrita is the closest town, about 10 minutes from the island. After crossing the one lane bridge, turn right to Isla Palo Seco. Follow this road to a short bridge which is the entrance to the island. There are mostly beach houses and private residences of native Costa Rican families on the island. There are two large hotels on the island and four restaurants and bars which service the local people and beach visitors.
For the most immediate needs, the bustling town of Parrita is only a 10 minute drive from the tranquil cabinas. Parrita has banks, supermarkets, restaurants, shopping, and a medical clinic. There are taxis, and bus service to Quepos, Jaco, and San Jose. Parrita hasn’t become a tourist town yet, but retains the character and charm of small-town Costa Rica. Credit for this belongs to the wonderful, friendly, and helpful people of the community. They truly live "Pura Vida"!
Isla Palo Seco is only about 9 km long and 200 to 400 meters wide. Much of the time the only sounds are the ocean waves combined with the songs of tropical birds, or the chirping of the small lizards, frogs and salamanders at night. It is just beginning to be noticed by tourists on Holiday, so there may be few other people on the wide volcanic sandy beach. The ocean has great breaks for surfing. The beach is wonderful for shelling, sunbathing, walking, biking, fishing, or swimming. The sunrises and sunsets over the ocean on this south-facing island are truly magnificent. Behind the narrow island is a wide mangrove estuary which flows in and out with the ocean tides. With the backdrop of huge mountains, this is a view to cherish. There is boat access to the estuary at the back of Cabinas la Tranquilidad property. The ancient mangrove trees, coconut palms and assorted tropical fruit and nut trees are homes for the many beautiful birds, iguanas, squirrels, white-faced monkeys, and other wildlife on the island. Explore the mangroves by small charter boat or on your own. This is a tranquil setting you will never forget.
Great fishing for Red Snapper, Grouper and numerous other species awaits in the estuary, or hire a larger charter boat for offshore game fishing. |
