    Two kilometres to the north of Periana, at Baños de Vilo, there are Moorish baths. These continued to be used for their sulphuric medicinal waters until the 19th century and have recently been restored. Lake Viñuela, large and beautiful is famed locally for its calm surface of shimmering blue. Many areas of Periana have a direct view to the lake itself. Fishing is permitted; the lake houses an abundance of Giant Carp and Black Bass.  Golf enthusiasts will have the full choice of the Costa del Golf’s large selection of lush courses. Several are close to Periana: Antequera Golf, Añoreta Golf and the soon-to-be-constructed lavish course at El Rosario will be popular favourites. Other sports and leisure activities in the area include horse riding, hiking and winter skiing at the Sierra Nevada (little more than an hour away).  Beach worshippers may sunbathe more than 300 days each year at the nearby beaches of Torre del Mar.  Some of the best shopping in Andalucia can be found in nearby Malaga (the regional capital). Just 30 minutes drive away; Malaga offers a massive area of high street shops, restaurants, bars, banks, hospitals, schools, transport links, discos and plenty of tourist attractions.  “El Corte Ingles” a huge Harrods-style shopping emporium sits in the heart of the city centre.
