This country house is situated in the Savoie, on the shores of the Lake of Aiguebelette, third natural lake in France, and warmest lake in Europe. Since its acquisition in 1956 it has been improved and modernised several times in the course of the last half century and kept with loving care by the present owners.
The manor house is surrounded by 12 acres of enclosed grounds and its outside appearance has changed little since it was built initially. It is ideally placed on a small rise, with an exceptional view over the lake and the 4,000 ft mountain range of the Epine. Within the grounds a path leads to a private beach and a ‘boules’ court by the water’s edge.
In the boat-house you will find complimentary rowing boats and pedalos which are at your disposal by prior arrangement.
Car parking facilities and if required, garaging for 1 or 2 cars, are available within the grounds.
History.
At the beginning of the 20th century Francois Delmas, wealthy and famous bass barytone of the Paris Opera falls in love with this magical place, the Lake of Aiguebelette. It is claimed that the architect of the Paris Opera also designed this house.
Two outside walls of the house are decorated with mosaics, one depicting a Muse (Erato and her lyre?) and the other the attributes of the lyrical and theatrical art. The Paris Opera finds its place there together with the initials of Francois Delmas and the year in which the building was completed: ‘1910’.
This great artist dies in 1933 and his manor house remains empty for 23 years before entering into the current family.
The Rooms
The four guest rooms are on the first floor and are accessed by the main staircase of the manor through a large common landing furnished with antiques.
In memory of Francois Delmas the guest rooms have been named after the Muses of the Mythology beloved by all artists and poets and source of their most inspired works.
From each room there is a wonderful view over the lake and the 4,000ft mountain range of the Epine. Each of these large sound-proof rooms has en-suite facilities, a lounge corner, a study corner, central heating and colour television. Some rooms have a bathroom, others a shower room, but all have been recently renovated.
