Istanbul – Where to Invest and Why? Turkey

Istanbul occupies a unique position as the only major city in the world split across two continents, divided by the Bosphorus strait that separates its European and Asian sides. That geography, combined with more than 2,500 years of history as a trading crossroads, continues to shape its real estate market today.

Despite periods of broader slowdown in the Turkish and global markets, Istanbul’s most established districts have held their value well, with new residential development continuing to expand into neighborhoods that have carried premium reputations for years. Much of the newer development activity has shifted toward the Asian side of the city, where several districts have seen significant rental growth in recent years.

Land values across Istanbul and its surrounding areas have risen sharply over the past several years, driven partly by limited available land and partly by ongoing urban development projects that continue to reshape entire districts. Areas offering strong transit access and proximity to the city center tend to command the highest premiums.

For investors weighing Istanbul against other major European and Middle Eastern markets, the city’s combination of history, geography, and ongoing development make it one of the more dynamic property markets in the region — though as with any fast-moving market, it rewards buyers who do real homework on a specific district before committing.
